Wabash Man Mistakenly Attacks Yard Snake Tale
A Wabash man, dressed for misadventure, was taken for a burglar after mistaking a yard object for a snake. He attacked with a hatchet, then learned it was a harmless item. The incident echoes a string of local misfortunes and curiosities reported in the era’s newspapers.
Transfer Tickets and New Lines for Street Cars
The street railway company has received 400,000 of the 5,000,000 transfer tickets and will begin use within a week. Transfer cars remain, but 48 fare-box car users cannot obtain tickets from drivers. Transfers must occur within a set time at any junction. The transfer car has been inadequate since 1884, with delays and abuses reported. Once fare-box cars are removed, the transfer car will be eliminated. Electric service to Brightwood faces delays due to hard times, though plans proceed for lines on several streets and avenues. Minnie Lowden, a Vance block stenographer, once dated Peter Reynolds who skipped his wedding, later tried to reconcile but she refused. Police were notified and the man threatened to leave town.
