Several new incorporations were recorded Tuesday including Cartwright & Headington mercantile company Alexandria with $20,000 capital and Anderson athletic club with $1,000 capital. Elwood lodge No. 515 K of P and Shelby st building and loan association Indianapolis with $100,000 capital also incorporated. Ex-justice Schmidt filed suit against Merchant policeman Steinkiller, accusing the officer of shooting and stealing his dog. Boeing permits listed for Tuesday show homes and additions in Washington and Tennessee streets with costs, while 46 young men attended civil service exams in federal court, including 26 for mail carriers and 20 for clerks. nine were colored. D. H. Baldwin & Co. sue Dora Day in Justice Daniels' court for possession of an organ purchased January 1891, alleging breach of terms and moved organ to an unknown location.
Indianapolis actress Annie Moore signs a season with the Paul Kauvar Company to star as Scarlet in the Russian drama Paul Kauvar. She will leave Indianapolis around Aug 20 to join Hartford rehearsals, then open in New York for four weeks.
About 100 veterans filled the statehouse agricultural rooms as the Soldiers Monument Commission heard protests from George N. Thomas post and Anderson post regarding the tablets on the shaft honoring Mexican and Indian wars. Spahr, Robbins, Cheadle, and Cochran presented lengthy objections and asked the commission to reconsider the monument’s original design.

Cal Wood was electrocuted Tuesday morning in Dannemara New York. He died within five minutes. Doctors Ransom and Ewing report a successful execution. The death appeared painless and instantaneous after the current was applied at 11 49.
Theodore Pennypacker and Joseph Hughes fished with dynamite at Worton creek when the explosive burst, Pennypacker blown to atoms and a shoulder bone lodging in Hughes. Hughes gravely injured and may not survive. The incident occurred in Baltimore Maryland on August 2.

The Mississippi River Improvement Commission met in New York to apportion $2,000,000 and discuss awarding contracts for up to $8,000,000 of river work over three years. The commission includes Gen. Comstock Col. Sutor Col. Ernest Maj. Harrod Judge Taylor Thury Wi. Ladd and Maj. Whiting.
In a Tuesday session the cadi presided over a violent dispute case. Warren Banks, accused of striking his wife, was fined 500 dollars and given 80 days in the workhouse but released on commitment with a promise not to strike again. A peddler, Samuel Faut, was jailed for selling spoiled fruit and warned to taste his stock before selling.
A Big Four limited passenger train collided with a freight eight miles from Altos killing Engineer Hoff man and Fireman Bar rette from Mattoon. Several passengers were badly hurt and may die. In Sunr ingfield thirteen cars wrecked when a gasoline car exploded after being struck by a workman pipe, burning eighteen people, five seriously.
An Ironton Ohio special reports Dir McCauley of Dayton urged several Christian Endeavor branches in Cincinnati to back a boycott if liquor sales are allowed or the Columbian exposition opens on Sunday. The resolution was blocked from voting and societies favored letting members decide individually.
Two young girls Eunice Hill seven and Treasa Padgett nine were seized and assaulted by Jack Jones and Pat Howard while playing in woods west of Wasuixeron Indiana. Treasa is not expected to live. The suspects fled and have not been captured.
Unruly prisoners at Rouen prison attack during a Monday night disturbance. Governor severely injured, troops called out, after an hour of parley convicts return to cells. Prison wrecked and order restored by dawn.
Washington Aug 2 Democrats held a caucus on the Chicago fair question and settled it for the present. Indiana’s Mr Holman chaired the meeting while Pennsylvania’s Mr Mutchler introduced the resolution proposing a six hour debate followed by a December vote on the Chicago fair bill. Only three amendments would be allowed. The appropriations sub committee would visit Chicago to assess the fair’s finances and report at the next Congress on whether government aid is needed.
Gen Mahlon D Manson a lifelong Democrat and supporter of the Democratic ticket predicts Cleveland and Stevenson win. He criticizes the People's Party as right in principle but unfocused and lacking impact despite his eighty plus years.
Emperor William rose early to sail on the Meteor for the queen's cup contest. At 10 o clock the yacht entered the race and led the starting line over the old queen's course. Winds were light and completion on Tuesday was uncertain, with late-day expectations.
A masked highwayman tried to rob a cable train on Summit Street. Police Sergeant Parker fired at the bandit, who returned fire and wounded the officer in the groin and left side. Parker is in dangerous condition. the bandit escaped.
In Pirrentine Pennsylvania Bauer and Knold were admitted to bail at $5,000 each on Tuesday. The bond had not yet been approved. Weather forecasts for Indiana predict fair skies, warmer today and Wednesday. A note on Ayer's Sarsaparilla appears among the text.
The twenty second annual convention of the National Catholic Total Abstinence Union opens in Masonic Hall with 300 delegates and about 1500 visitors. Bishop Chatard welcomes delegates with a sermon by Rev Father Elliot of New York. Events include a high mass at St John Cathedral and a street parade.
Dr H W Dimmit of Vanceburg reports a genuine wild man in Lewis county Kentucky described as gigantic hairy fierce and untamable. A local man reportedly attempted conversation but was pelted with rocks and fled. Dimmit says he saw the creature himself in the hills last week.
Chicago court rules Garfield Park racing club cannot operate pool selling as it constitutes gambling under city ordinances. Judge Baker’s mandamus ruling blocks licensing, likely pushing the Garfield Park club to relocate to Indiana for racing and pool selling opportunities.
Aug ione, about 200 G A Ht members from Chicago and Rockford arrived Tuesday and hoisted a silk flag over the school house. A teacher had urged trustees to permit it, but they refused. Allegations include an alien member and another who fled to Canada in 63 to dodge the draft. The G A Vi responded by raising the flag, and directors have been asked to resign.
A lone bear was sighted near Pike's Crossing seven miles north of town causing residents to arm themselves. A hunting party forms to capture the creature. Also reported a young child killed by a horse kick near Wasasi while his father unhitched the team.
