Deadly mine disaster at Blue Canon coal mine
In New Wyatcom Washington on Monday a blast in the Blue Canon coal mine left many dead. Within hours twenty three bodies were recovered and rescue efforts continued. Only two men escaped Edward Gilien and Jos Kerns were found near the mouth badly stunned but crawled to the surface. The mine tunnel is 800 feet long with a 1000 foot gangway and 26 rooms. Safety lamps were used throughout and the cause remains unknown.
