Bananas Grow on Large Plant Not Trees in Tropics

The article explains bananas grow on a tall plant rather than a tree, with suckers detached at three feet and transplanted. Plants bloom after about two years, producing a heart shaped flower from which a banana bunch forms. The plant may reach 40 feet, leaves at the top, and milk once fruits, with shoots replaced by suckers. Varieties like Martinique and Red Jamaica exist, origin traced to India though cultivated worldwide. Export bananas are picked green to avoid spoilage, while tree ripened fruit tastes better but spoils quickly.
