Senator Glass warns that a 10 percent drop in government bond prices could push 90 percent of banks out of business while noting the national debt of 34.5 billion largely owes to banks. He accuses the New Deal of forcing banks to buy 14 thousand dollars per minute, framing it as taxpayer burden.
Lieutenant Annister reaches Mawson's Glacier base to find Captain Lampson and Steepton dead or dying. Draimer and Kent perished in a crevasse while Sampson survives. Annister learns Lampson never sent for aid, discovers a new mountain range named after him, and contemplates a greater discovery than Lampson.
Washington Twp residents report visitors and calls from Indiana Ohio and nearby towns. Notable events include Brice Peterman and family at a Johnstown funeral, Mary Edwards and Merlin Park joining relatives, and several families from Atwood Harmony Grove and Punxsutawney visiting or hosting over the weekend.
George Lambing transacted business at the county seat Monday while Emerson Rumsey’s friends gathered at his home Wednesday September 30 to honor his birthday. A 57 candle cake featured as the evening’s main attraction. Various neighbors and relatives from Indiana, Johnstown, Manor and Belsano visited, dined, and exchanged calls across the week. Dwight Henry is listed as sick, and several families were noted attending a sale in Indiana.
Mrs Irene rout and daughter Mrs Elmer Stitt from near Grice more were recent Indiana callers. trommy Lunn son of Mr and Mrs George Lunn celebrated his fourth birthday. Logan Parry called on A D Tyger for Marion Center. Miss Helen Gibson of Indiana spent the weekend at her home near Pine Flats. Mr and Mrs Ward Stahl and their daughter spent weekend in Philadelphia. Mr and Mrs Quay Henry of Heilwood were guests in the Lunn home Saturday. Mr and Mrs Clair Edwards of Ebensburg spent the weekend with friends in this vicinity. Mr and Mrs Harvey Brown and Mrs Margaret Brown of Manor and F S Golden were Indiana callers on Tuesday.
STRONGSTOWN reports of a regular monthly meeting hosted by Mrs. Terrah Altimus on Thursday. Wm. McCrady attended in Pittsburgh and heard President Roosevelt's speech. Mrs. J. C. Garrett and daughters Marie and Alma, along with Jaye Johnson, spent the weekend in Cleveland. Mrs. Tom Stephens, who had a stroke earlier, shows little improvement. Erma Boring, once employed in Penn Run, has returned home. Oliver Cresswell of Ebensburg visited relatives in the week.
Governor Alf Landon has held only the Kansas governor's office with two terms. He has delivered four years of administration strictly on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Loop Dr C W Bikin and wife of Pittsburgh with mother in law visit Mrs A M Barrett and family in Canton Ohio for time with foster son Wm Adams. Isobel Barrett returns from State Teachers College Indiana. Joseph Beresynak and family of Clymer visit C H Barrett. Duff Elkin family spend Sunday with relatives near Georgeville. Ray McConnell plans move to Robert Adams farm bought by Mary E Stear. A M Barrett and wife attended.
Wayne township marked the centennial of St Michael's Church last week as Nathan Timmis and his family from Cailensburg spent Saturday with relatives in town.
By decree of Bernhard Rust the German minister of education English shall be the first foreign language taught in Reich high schools henceforth.
