Planning an October mass meeting with Republican state candidates and Governor Stuart accused to attend. A monster parade will precede the event with music and red fire. Special trains will bring delegations from across the county, and the date will be announced next week.
A meeting of Buffalo Rochester and Pittsburgh officials and the Transportation Committee of the Board of Trade discussed adding a noon departure and three hours in Punxsutawney for Indiana residents. A special monthly market day rail rate is under consideration. The Elders Ridge branch now has a regular passenger train connecting with the Indiana train to Punxsutawney.
The New Century Club held its first meeting in its new home on North Sixth street with fifty members present. Eight new members were elected and delegates named for the State Federation meeting in Scranton. French study plans and a piano purchase were noted, plus a brief address from President Mrs Frank Keener.
The Cher ryhill township farm of Peter Houck and his wife, aged 81 and 77, farm 146 acres and produced a full harvest without outside help. Houck, who sowed and tended the fields, harvested with his wife assisting, reflecting a lifetime of toil on a renowned county property.
Pleasant gatherings in Young and Conemaugh townships marked fifty years of marriage for Archibald and Sarah McAdoo of Young township. The couple, in good health with eight children and numerous grandchildren, were wed in 1860 and have long served their community. Nearby, Mr. and Mrs. G W Brokes of Livermore celebrated their twenty sixth anniversary with friends, filled baskets, and a midday lawn banquet, followed by socializing and small gifts.
Indiana County collected 12 900 26 in state tax this year and sent it to Harrisburg. Three fourths of the amount is returned for county needs. Jefferson County reports 10 871 87, higher than Indiana by more than a thousand. A mummified cat and rat were unearthed during foundation work for the White building. The bodies, well preserved, are on display at Tadlana cigar store.
Civil court concluded two damage suits with damages of 750 and 180.16 awarded against the Indiana County Street Railways Company for farm right of way and tied deliveries. Agatihoa Ruggeri was sentenced to pay a 100 fine and at least three years in Western Penitentiary for second degree murder. Guardsmen promise a future performance of Harry B. Marshall's Ball of Manila in Blairsville, credited to Marshall.
Sidney Marlin Jr aged about 12 son of Squire Sidney Martin of Clymer avenue broke his arm by falling while coming home from school Monday afternoon. Thirty names were added to the Progress notice since last. A public meeting will be held Friday at 7 30 in Court Hall to discuss organizing an M C A movement. Uniforms provided for watchman and elevator men at the Normal school. New uniform gowns for dining room girls.
The Progress will begin a continued story titled Lord Loveland Discovers America. An English titled but penniless noble seeks a wife who values rank enough to pay for it. He faces hardship, tests of character, and finds love beyond money, promising wide reader appeal. Read the first installment next week.
Fifteen cars carried about 75 Wilkinsburg Automobile Club members to Indiana. They spent the night there and returned Sunday. En route home they stopped at Laughin farm near Jacksonville after hearing cries of fire. The group helped fight a blaze that started in the attic of the house.
Bolivar residents subscribed to 1260 dollars to restart the Phoenix Fire Brick Company plant. The decision aims to revive Bolivar’s long standing brick industry, with the firm expected to resume large scale production soon. In Armagh Township a boy was attacked by a rooster while playing in his yard. The rooster inflicted several cuts on the face and head and was treated by Dr. C H Rink of Shelocta.
Jefferson County granted marriage licenses last week to Rogene H. Martin of Armstrong County and Nellie Florence Coleman of Smicksburg, and to Fred A. Killiker of Onondaga and Mary McKilbatten Jr. of Roal r.
The Indiana Baptist Association schedules its thirty fourth annual gathering at a Baptist church with sessions Thursday and Friday. The Women's Missionary Society meets today at 2 PM with devotional services and various addresses led by leaders from Homer City Indiana Ambrose Philadelphia Blairsville and Pittsburgh. The association program covers devotions committee reports officer elections a reading of by laws and ministry reports. Drs Leroy Stephens and C A Hare renowned Baptist ministers will attend and address attendees.
Mr and Mrs J B Heilbrun near Ernest entertained 75 friends on Monday honoring Mrs Heilbruns birthday. Mrs Harry White Jr hosted 50 ladies at Croylands north of town Friday for Mrs J N Shores of Nampa Idaho. Mrs P J McGovern at South Tenth Street gave a dinner party Thursday with guests including Mrs A B Gillespie Mrs Jas Corrigan Mrs Milton Hell Mrs M Smith Mrs F Smith Mrs H M Bushnell Mrs W G Huston and others from town Blacklick Rochester Mills and beyond.
Two apple trees on the J. M. Hilie man farm at Reed Station began blooming two weeks ago with blossoms last week. A second crop of strawberries was picked near Saltsbury, violets bloom near Irwin, and David M. Caldwell, a Grove City businessman, left for permanent relocation after previously running a clothing store and now working for Ber wind White Coal Company.
Attorneys J Day Brownlee and Clarence V McCreight for Keystone opened their campaign with a Friday Ambrose meeting and a Saturday Tanoma gathering for voters. Local residents Mr and Mrs John R Bush plan their fiftieth anniversary celebration on Tuesday in Green township Magemertlaga.
Booster Day at the Court House featured local and visiting business leaders urging united effort to develop Indiana as a business and residence center. Addresses highlighted strong banks, local manufacture, real estate, wholesale trades, and the need for homes, moral standards, and communal effort to boost town growth.
James FB Campbell a former Heshbon resident and noted county teacher is identified as president of the Colorado Realty Dealers Association. The group held its convention this week in Trinidad, Colorado, with Campbell active in business and regional leadership.
Clark Bowers and John ock wrestled in the Bowers orchard near Nolo on Monday afternoon. Clark fell and dislocated his right elbow. Dr. T. D. Stephens of Penn dressed the injury yesterday. The injured boy is 4s son of B Bowery.
