Basil Derry and His Flint Lock Guns Burnt Eye and Black Snake
Basil Derry lived as a woodsman for 65 years with his wife Mary as partner in hunting and farming. They raised stout children and, near their end, Basil and Mary died within a short span of each other, Basil at nearly ninety. The old flint locks, Burnt Eye and Black Snake, remained his trusted weapons, with Black Snake kept for Mary in emergencies.
