qualified for membership in the cording to figures made public today 400 club by producing Secretary of Internal Affairs James Potatoes on an acre bushels Secretary of Internal Affairs James Potatoes on an acre William S of Marion Center produced F Woodward following the comple tion of an industrial survey of the district made by the Bureau of Sta tistics and information of the Penn sylvania Department of Internal Af fairs The result of the survey show ed that the value ot the countys in dustrial products last year increased per cent over tho preceding year The figures as given by Secretary Woodward show that products to the value of or 52 per cent of the total were shipped to points outside of Pennsylvania for sale and distribution In 1921 products ship ped from the county to points outside of the state were valued at 800 or 42 per cent of the total Indiana county last year had 197 industrial establishments represent ing 46 different kinds of production In 1921 there were 174 plants report ed to the Department of Internal Af fairs The establishments last year gave employment to persons or per cent more than in 1921 Of these workers were American whites 137 were Americans colored and were foreigners There male employees and 155 female workers in industry These persons were paid in wages last year or per cent more than in 1921 the males receiv ing while the female employees were paid In addition to the wage earners there were 688 salaried employees last year who were paid or 1 per cent less than in 1921 The salaried workers increased in num bers slightly less than 7 per cent With the addition of tho salaried there were persons engaged in industry in the county in 1922 as compared with in 1921 The combined wages and sal aries amounted to 01 per cent more than the preced ing year The capital invested in In diana countys industrial establish ments last year readied or 24 per cent above the invested capital in 1921 Mining and quarrying proved to bo the higgest producing class in Indiana county this class of industry repre senting product valued at 500 Metals and metal products had a value of and day glasi and stone products were worth Other industrial classes had these values Building and contract ing chemicals and allied products food and kin dred products loath or and rubber goods hover ages lumber and its reman Ufacture paper and print ing industries textiles and textile products tobacco and its products miscellane ous including 400 worth of beehive coke Some quantities produced in Indi ana county lastyear included pounds of bushels per acre All three of these parties who qualified for the 400 club used Michigan Disease Free Russets sprayed thoroughly and followed the most uptodate practices of cultiva tion and fertilization When the average yield of potatoes in Pennsylvania is only 100 bushels per acre a yield of 400 bushels seems almost phenomenal However it is not extraordinary where the best known
