A Dramatic Scene and Tales of Domestic Strife
Evangeline and Alec enact a theatrical scenario with Gabriel imagery as foreboding romance, while Peace confronts jealousy and a dangerous plan for a peaceful marriage. A contrasting tale, A Good Natured Wife, offers a wry neighborly experiment with cross purposes, and a mythic note recalls Agamemnon and Cassandra in Homeric legend.
Portrait of a Beloved Husband by a Sorrowful Widow
A sculptor presents a damp clay bust to a widow who views it with sorrow and pride. She quotes a farewell sentiment praising her husband as good and worthy of lasting memory.
