Fire destroys barn on Stewart farm in Buffington township
Early Wednesday a fire gutted the barn on the James Stewart farm owned by William G. Stewart of Mechanicsburg and County Superintendent J. T. Stewart. Hunters are suspected to have caused the blaze. two horses and 60 tons of hay plus 480 bushels of oats 200 bushels buckwheat and 100 bushels corn were lost. The barn and contents were insured for 3600. James Stewart will share in the loss. Natural gas caused a small fire at Mrs. Annie Duncan’s home on West School Street when a stove tube disconnected and ignited escaping gas, damaging a carpet but not serious. The A. L. Kirkpatrick residence at Smicksbury was lightly damaged by fire.
