Lightning Destroys Shultz Barn in Pine Township
A severe storm struck Pine Township on Wednesday afternoon as a bolt ignited William Shultz's new barn, destroying the structure and its contents. A prized horse, 10 tons of hay, 75 bushels of wheat, farming implements, a threshing machine, wagon and buggy were lost. The Shultz family, away from Lone, faced a heavy uninsured portion though some coverage existed with Cambria County Mutual.

Evening train schedule altered on Pennsylvania line west of Pittsburg

Will Buchanan Crushed After Attempting to Board Freight
Will Buchanan, about 26, was seriously injured near Homer City when he tried to boarding a moving freight train. He was pulled under wheels, left ankle crushed, leg amputated, and he sustained head and body injuries. Doctors fear internal damage, but he rests under care with his parents in Homer City.

Lightning strikes water street pole near Armory
A bolt of lightning during Monday morning rain shattered an electric light pole on Water street near the old Armory. The shock was felt at the central telephone office and by patrons using instruments. The fuse on the switchboard burned out and 14 lines were out of service briefly.
