Sheriff Jacob Wettling in Indiana County maintains about 25 deputies guarding Ernest coal town after a Sunday incident in which an Italian was shot in the back by a deputy. Two deputies were accidentally shot by fellow officers in a booze fueled melee. Arbiter arrests followed as strikers and guards clashed near mine openings. The mine operations paused and miners voted to stand with the union. several hotels and local officials adjusted as town life resumes.

Glen Campbell merchant was arrested Wednesday by a United States officer on a charge of concealing assets in bankruptcy proceedings. Max Phillips posted bail for a hearing in U S District Court at Pittsburg this month. Throughout 1906 eastern Pennsylvania saw about $500,000 losses from alleged fraudulent failures. This arrest follows warrants issued by a Pittsburg Association of Credit Men as a test case in the western part of the state.

James A. Wheeler of Barnesboro, a former Dixonville resident, was struck by a passenger train near Spangler while walking on the tracks. He died an hour later at a physician’s office. Wheeler, 41, left Barnesboro with companions for a walk, ignored the approaching locomotive whistle, and was fatally injured. Survived by wife, child, five sisters, two brothers, and parents Mr. and Mrs. John Wheeler. Interment at Buthol church cemetery, near Dixonville.
