Important Pension Ruling Promises Easier Benefits
Commissioner Ware, with Secretary Hitchcock’s reproval, issued a major pension ruling effective April 13. It says claimants under the general act aged 62 eligible for reduced disability and monthly amounts up to 12 dollars at 70, with higher rates for other disabilities. Heirs to Two Estates Involving Wills and Beneficiaries
Wills filed last week for John Weichner of Itiliana and Esau Sutcliffe of Banks township name multiple bequests. Andrew Weichner receives 200 dollars with 100 to his eldest child, his wife gets 200 and her eldest child for education, and the remainder is to be sold with interest from the proceeds to be paid to John. Sutcliffe leaves his widow all personal property and farm during her life, then his grandson Clyde Northrope receives five acres, Etta Northrope gets coal beneath five and ten acres previously given, and the remainder to daughters Bell Crossbaugh Jennett and Bessie Sutcliffe after his wife’s death. John Nealor of White township returning home Wednesday evening met a serious accident when his wagon wheel struck his left ankle as the horses drank. The ankle was fractured and dislocated. Dr. J. M. Torrence attended. Joseph H. Singer of Penn Run slipped near his home Friday, fracturing his left leg below the knee. The limb had been broken there before and was weakened.

Another Old Book Exhibited At Progress Office
A rare volume now on display at the Progress office is the Confession of Faith with Larger and Shorter Catechisms printed in August 1768. Belonging to J. Wilson Shields of Rayne township, it came to him through his grandfather John Shields, a county pioneer, and is valued for an inscription of the Shields family and for being bound in the skin of a deer shot by his grandfather. The exhibition lasts briefly.

History Building Destroyed in East Wheatfield Fire
The Samuel Elder homestead built in the forties three miles from Armagh along the Ebensburg Armagh Pike burned Sunday evening. It was unused at the time after the last tenant left a week prior and is thought to be the work of thieves amid nearby robberies. The property belonged to J N Elder and was not insured.

County Schools Score Victory in State Educational Exhibit
Indiana county public schools took first in the statewide education exhibit for the World’s Fair in St Louis. County Superintendent J I Stewart and his teachers and pupils earned praise as the rural school district’s 304 drawings and written works across all branches were showcased. The award, a 330 prize, will go to a county school chosen by commissioners, with Stewart awaiting designation. The exhibit, prepared for the West Chester inspection, drew strong admiration during the directors’ association sessions.

Retired Indiana Branch Conductor David Mullen Passes
David Mullen of North Ninth street is placed on the retirement list of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Newton Kelly succeeds him as conductor on the local line. Mullen retires after forty two years of injury free service, including seven years directing passenger trains. A busy week in criminal court closed the March term with no civil cases. Giovanni Anghelli’s murder case led to grim testimony while Phillip Lantay, charged with statutory rape against his 12 year old daughter, was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years. Giovanni Ruchelli received a 20 year sentence in solitary confinement for murder.
