Pension Roll Highlight For West Wheatfield Resident
Daniel Hendricks of West Wheatfield township in this county received a $12 pension check from Andrew Carnegie with a monthly continuation promise for life. Formerly a freight conductor under the "Steel King" while serving the western division of the Pennsylvania Railroad, he also worked a canal boatman during canal days. An incident on his railroad route saw his train plunge from the Johnstown bridge into the Conemaugh River. he survived with minor injuries. Now 70, he remains in good health.

Big Timber Purchase Near Martin Town

Fire at Bolivar destroys Reese-Hammond brick works
The Reese-Hammond No. 1 brick works at Bolivar burned Saturday morning. The frame buildings including the engine rooms and mill were destroyed. The firm will rebuild with brick structures to be nearly fireproof, but many workers were left unemployed.
