At the February 20 meeting the Automobile Club of Indiana County announced road penalizations for fourteen of the twenty four townships inspected. Daily road deterioration and shift to goat roads were cited while the $900 prize money offered by Hon. John P. Wikin was to be awarded. John B. Cook of Cookport faces a serious charge for allegedly assaulting Blanche Bagley fourteen on January 17 as she walked to a neighbor’s home. The girl’s mother reported the crime, and Constable J B Reed tracked Cook to Cresson. Cook was arrested as he alighted from a train, brought back to Cookport, and held in jail without bail for rape.

At the coroner inquest into the death of Steve Polokie at Wehrum on Sunday night February 19, Mile Doy aka is held for court on murder charges. Evidence implicates Mike and John Isko with Doyake said to have fired the first shot. Doyake’s accomplice Risko faces charges of attempted murder and reckless shooting. Judge S J Telford has appointed George J Felt as counsel for Doyake and Risko.

Massive Barn Fire Near Richmond Destroys Large County Barn
A Sunday 7:00 am bonfire near Richmond burned the Martha Sutton Martin farm barn known as the Billy Sutton barn. Three cows five pigs a horse and mule were saved. calves sheep hens turkeys hay wagons and farm machinery perished. Wheat rye buckwheat corn flour total losses exceed insured 1000. neighbors helped save the dwelling.

Thieves entered three Indiana locations on Sunday morning and were scared away while at the Elmer W. Allison & Co drug store. They secured tools at Penn Enameling works and took about $6 in cash at Houk Hotel before fleeing. Dr W A Simpson and John P H Shields arrived to investigate after a breaking glass alert. Three suspects were spotted later at Eagle's lumber yard. Indiana County Street Railway plans a duplicate power plant at Two-Hek to protect service. John G. St Clair elected director and appointed treasurer and secretary.

Jury Favored Land Owners In Green witch Case Appeal Likely

Fire at Beaverdale destroys Logan Valley Coal Co store
A Beaverdale Cambria county fire leveled the Logan Valley Coal Company store. The 80 by 100 foot building housed a storeroom on the first floor and six families on the second, all losing belongings. Furniture hardware groceries meat department stock and a hay barn were burned. An explosion in the furnace is blamed. Estimated loss $18,000 with $10,000 insurance.

Obituary notices from Youngstown area residents
Andrew Milliken a retired Youngstown manufacturer died February 19 of heart failure at his home. He was born near Harrisburg April 18, 1831 and lived in Indiana county before moving to Pittsburgh then Youngstown where he started the Youngstown Car Manufacturing Co. He leaves a wife, three children, a brother and two sisters. Mrs John G. Lewis died at her home near Livermore aged 82.
