Four Killed by Lightning in Rural Valley Storm
A severe weekend electrical storm near Hamilton and across the Indiana County line in Jefferson County killed four people and damaged buildings. A boy and a cow died instantly in a barn struck by lightning, two other boys were injured, and Bert Weiss of Punxsutawney died at a barn door. James Mitchell and his 15-year-old son were killed in Rural Valley while their house burned. The storm also damaged other homes, with Mrs. Walker severely shocked and others reporting minor damage. A three-year-old boy, Francis Keenan, was later found dead in the Conemaugh River after a prior drowning incident.

Narrow escape after buggy topple on rural road
