Tragic Holiday Party Ends in Double Drowning
Samuel Garrig and William McColl of Saltsbury drowned after a holiday celebration on the Westmoreland side of the Conemaugh river. They could not swim when a boat overturned and their companions tried to help. Garrig leaves a wife and children. McColl was 21 and unmarried. A separate incident reports John Dike, an Italian at Bolivar, shot by James Stiltey during Memorial Day drinking. Dike reportedly died later that week.

Senator Gorman Dead Obituary Traces Career in Maryland and U.S. Senate
United States Senator Arthur P. Gor man died at his Washington home on Monday morning. Born in Howard county Maryland on March 11, 1839, he began as a Senate page in 1852, served in the Maryland Legislature, became speaker of the House, then the State Senate, and was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1880 with reelec tions in 1886 1892 and 1898.

In a case shocking to the county, Carmene Renzo, found guilty of murder in the first degree for the 1905 killing of 15 year old Mariana Barro at Creekside, will be hanged on July 26 after a governor's warrant. His chances of commuting to life are poor as the crime drew wide public attention.

A large coal plant at Coral including Apple washer and crusher was totally destroyed by a Tuesday morning fire causing loss of thousands of dollars and likely idling many workers. The fire, discovered about 1:00 am, broke out under roof with limited facilities to check it. Origin undetermined. electricity powered all machinery and no fire was used yesterday.
