Telephone exchange dispute and plans in Indiana county

Owing to conflicting reports the Indiana Telephone Company outlines proposals to Farmers Telephone Company for a free exchange over Indiana lines using 375 to 380 phones. Farmers declined citing bylaws and possible future exchanges. Indiana argues a one year contract with options could have satisfied both, enabling long distance connections to Johnstown Pittsburgh and beyond. New metallic switchboards planned to reduce cross talk and improve service. Also notes Farmers does not operate exchanges in Punxsutawney or Kittanning but has a free exchange with Kittanning. Indiana Mutual Fire Assurance Co reports nine months of operation with over $300,000 in insured value and a $1 per thousand membership fee for five-year policies. Auction of borough lots set for August 16 at 2 pm. Furniture catalog at H H Stevings in Indiana.
