Goodyear active large coal land purchases near Mahoning

Indications point to a major Goodyear coal buy in the Mahoning region as 4000 acres of land were taken up near Plumville with initial payments and plans to pay remaining tracts by August. Landowners receive 35 per acre for coal, 80 with surface. Major McCreight paid about 25,000 to landowners and further payments are expected. optioned fields include four farms on Little Plum Creek. The Buffalo and Susquehanna railroad is being extended toward DuBois to access the fields. Daily coal shipments rise from 50 tons to 200 when fully equipped. Goodyear aims to expand holdings and extend the railroad into the county to tap coal fields.
