Teachers Not Plenty Still Hope for Carmine

In White Township and surrounding districts many teachers were elected for the coming term though 148 of 300 county applicants failed to qualify. A special examination is planned August 24 for those needing reexamination or positions. Several townships listed new staff, with dozens of teachers named across communities as schools prepare to open in September. Meanwhile Carmine Renzo’s execution was halted by a last minute stay after Governor Pennypacker recalled the warrant citing new evidence reviewed by the Board of Pardons.

Two Estates Divided Will Filed in Pine Township

The will of Peter Hill dated February 7, 1902 leaves the entire estate to his widow for life with $100 to son Emanuel at her death. Remainder to be shared equally by Levi Daniel Emanuel Susan Emma and granddaughters Ollie and Bell. Also recorded is H S Graham's will dated November 16, 1891 leaving all to his widow after funeral expenses. Mary Sutton visits Miss Mary Whittermon in Latrobe.

Local News Briefs From Town and District

A run off at the four yards yesterday left J. D. Keeler injured as his horses frightened. He was dragged and suffered cuts and bruises, needing seven stitches to a gash in the right ankle. Dr. G. H. Simpson gave aid. Own a Launch, F Delos and R D Hetrick with Edward Rowe bought a two horse power gasoline launch with steel hull for eight passengers to use near Crooked Creek at Seu end for a camping trip. Jack Ness, popular barber, leaves for Wyoming to locate permanently. Arthur Gould purchased the tensorial establishment of Mt. Neus. A group including William Loughry, Merle White, Robert Bruce, Van Loughry and Haley Tomb plans a two week camping trip along Blacklick creek near Campbell’s Mills. Lutheran services will be held Sunday morning conducted by Rev. Lewis Hay.

Weddings of a Week: Valentine Simpson Shields Riddle Duncan

Leland Valentine of East Pittsburg and Miss dna B Simpson of Georgeville married at the bride’s parents home with Rev. Ernest Fryckland officiating. A serenade followed as Miss Alice Butler served as bridesmaid and Gilbert Jack attended. The couple will reside in East Pittsburg where Valentine works for Westinghouse.

Marriage Banns Published for Startmiller and McMullen

The marriage banns for Karl J. Startmillier of town and Miss Catherine McMullen of Pottsville were published by Rev N P McNelis at St Bernard's on Sunday. The wedding is expected in about three weeks. Stadtmiller is brother to Jewaley John Stadtmiller and works at his brother's establishment. The bride has resided here for three years. Bridge Construction Near Mitchells Mills Improves Travel

A 115 foot bridge is being erected over the railroad cut near Mitchells Mills to span a 97 foot deep gap, easing overland travel in the area. The Blacklick Drug Store was sold to Samuel Shepley of Blatraville, with the U.S. Reck drug store at Blacklick also mentioned.

Properties Change Hands In Busy Local Market

H W Steving buys Patton lot east of the Indiana House to build a modern three story brick business block with plate glass displays and front and rear entrances via Gompers Alley. The project includes an elevator and large storage department for his undertaker and furniture business.
