Great Chicago Fire 1871 destroys vast areas and hotels

The Chicago fire of July 14 1871 roared through Clark Third and State streets burning a wide swath from Clark near Twelfth to Van Buren and State to Harrison. It consumed twenty business blocks on State and large portions of Wabash Michigan and Polk, with costly losses and brave firefighting efforts. seven lives later reported vanished as rescue and rebuilding began.
