County schools selected instructors across districts with many more male teachers to be employed. 225 provisional and professional certificates issued from 344 applicants, while some failed due to age under 18. Woman's Liberty Bell To Visit Indiana County Towns

The Woman's Suffrage Bell, an exact duplicate of the Liberty Bell, will tour Indiana visiting Blairsville Macklick Homer City and Indiana with arrivals and speeches planned at the Court House. After dinner meetings the bell party plans public addresses and welcomes by local women along the routes.

Evans Stalwart Couple To Celebrate Golden Wedding

Mr and Mrs John S Evans of Homer City will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a journey to California. Born in Brushvalley and Ohio respectively, they married July 15 1865 and have nine children, 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild. They plan visits to Kansas Colorado and other states before returning home.

Smicksburg Veterans Entertained Wives and Widows

The Smicksburg Veteran Association hosted a dinner for wives and widows of deceased soldiers and guests on Thursday evening. Chaplain Stumpf spoke after the meal, with attendees including Capt. Evan Lewin and family, Capt. Lukehart, Adam Black and others. Widows present included Mrs. Ritchey, Mrs. Hyleskell, Mrs. Bond, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Glenn, and Mrs. Warren. Visitors included Mrs. Lizzie Lants of Altoona and several young women.

Council Orders Sidewalk Improvements Along Nix on and Gompers Alleys

Town Council met Monday night and ordered sidewalks along Nixon alley between Seventh and Eighth streets, Gompers alley between Carpenter avenue and Seventh streets, Carpenter avenue to Church street on east side of Thirteenth Street from Philadelphia to Church, north side of West Thirteenth Street along C. F. McJunkin and Margaret Thompson properties, north side of East Philadelphia Street at Fourth Street, and both sides of Tenth Street to Oakland Avenue.

Rossiter Girl Charged Overturned Money Order Scheme

Miss Frances Smith of Rossiter was arrested on a charge of raising a money order from four to forty dollars by adding a cipher to a tal certificate. The case involved a prior Spring transfer from Buffalo where Anna Smith sent a money order to Frances. Frances allegedly confessed and exonerated her sister.

Birthdays and local notices in Center and Cherryhill townships

Neighbors honored Mrs. Robert Toy of Center township with a lawn birthday gathering and baskets of food. Sixty two friends celebrated Mrs. Catherine Stephens’s 79th birthday at her son Ed Stephens’ Cherryhill home with dinner on the lawn. A hearing before Justice Crossman fined S. B. Glasaford of Starford 120 dollars for an automobile license violation. County Supt. James F. Chapman left for Grove City College to attend summer training for educators. David Rittenhouse of Rochester Mills was elected vice president of the State Association of Rural Letter Carriers at Warren convention. Premium list for the county fair appears in the Progress this week. Ten hogs on Elder and Max Coleman’s White township farm died from swine plague and cholera.

Walter Wrederick of Kossiter marries Miss Tva Lydick of Juneau in a ceremony conducted by Squire James A. Crossman at the county jail where the groom was an inmate on a serious charge. The couple plans to share joys and trials together after leaving town. Also reported are hospital June figures: 4 admissions, 160 treated, 65 discharged, 2 deaths, 4 births, 57 operations. 32 patients remained on July 1. Cherry harvest noted with a branch of 64 cherries exhibited from P T Hamill’s farm on the White township.

Brewery License Refused After Rehearing

The Indian Brewing Co. failed to obtain a brewer's license after a re hearing. Judge G. J. Telford found the applicant unfit. In a separate incident, Froger Nicewonger of Mitchella Mills was injured in a bicycle accident near Montgomery township, suffering a collarbone fracture.

Indiana Attorney Appointed to CGH State Office

Attorney John A. Scott of Indiana County is named to the Workmen's Compensation Board by Governor Brumbaugh. The three-member board, including Leethy and Mackay, will serve four years with salaries up to 7600 for the chair. Scott has long served county roles and business interests and will assist in implementing the new compensation statute beginning January.

Man Hangs Self at County Home Inmate Despondent

Al Clawson aged about 60 an inmate at the County Home was found dead after he secured a rope and hanged himself in a woods lot Saturday. Despondent and in ill health for some time he resided near Creekside and Fairview. He leaves two daughters Mrs Ostermyer and Mrs Richard Lydia. Funeral services were held Monday with burial at Oakland cemetery.

Deaths in Western Pennsylvania Claim Noted Clergyman

Died during a visit to his daughter Rev Willan Uf Robinson a respected Indiana figure whose work with the American Sunday School Union Y M C A and Bible classes touched Western Pennsylvania Ohio and West Virginia He collapsed near Seventh Street while attempting to catch a trolley. His death joins a week of local losses including George Rankin a 53 year old farmer of South Mahoning Township and Anos Cravener a longtime town resident. Funeral services followed private vigils at home and a Baptist church service with regional clergy present.

A Serious Wound in White Township

A serious leg wound to Henton Miller son of eH Nisler White township caused ongoing pain after a winter woodwork injury. Doctors were summoned as pain increased last week and the patient is recovering. Mrs Warry and Lowry of White township had a successful operation at Indiana hospital Wednesday with a favorable condition reported this week.
