Brides and grooms of long ago hear wedding bells
Atoning bells were retuned for Indiana county couples last week as Mr and Mrs Adam Black of Smicksburg celebrated their forty fifth anniversary and Mr and Mrs Jacob Frantz of Rossmoyne along with Mr and Mrs G W Brady of Ambrose marked their fiftieth. The Black ceremony was July 4 1866 with Rev A C Ahrenfeld officiating. About ten witnesses nearby attended and the gathering included a dinner and a singing of Bless Be the Tie That Binds. The Frants observed their golden anniversary with more than eighty friends at Rossmoyne and a barn dinner followed by an organizational meeting and addresses. The Brady couple celebrated their own fiftieth at Ambrose with sixty relatives present and gifts, including a Morris chair and silverware. Both couples remain active in community life and church.

Woman Convicted of Bigamy Must Serve Jail Sentence
Mrs. Gus Lutman of town found guilty of bigamy and adultery in the June criminal court. She is sentenced to pay a 200 dollar fine, cover prosecution costs, and serve 96 days in the county jail. Formerly Lulu Williard, she married John Lutman in 1909, then later Elmer Gressley in 1910, claiming separation and alleging coercion by Lutman.

A severe electrical storm struck parts of the county causing multiple barn fires and livestock losses. A black stallion died at the George K Garman farm near Beringer while other horses were stunned. a fire was suppressed by George Richard and Hurshell Garman. Dr. Elmer Onstott of Saltsburg was elected county censor and Dr. OG G. Spicher of Stafford was named delegate to the state convention at Harrisburg on September 12.

Drunken Husband Accused of Leaving Family in Vandergrift

Heat Claims Two Lives in Indiana County Weather
Heat to blame for two deaths in White Township and Growden farm area. Philip Cuppett, 65, of Garnutown, fell from a cherry tree ladder and died from a neck fracture after heat exhaustion on Thursday. Frank Marshall, well known saddler, collapsed while repairing a pump on South Fifth Street and died at his home. Both victims were overcome by extreme heat while outdoors. Marshall and his sister Helene were near when he fell.

Indiana boy dies of tetanus after spike injury
Richard K. Smith aged 18 years and six months died from tetanus after an injury June 14 when he stepped on a spike. He suffered a week of intense pain before death at his grandmother’s home in Oak Street. He was a graduate of Indiana High School and is survived by his parents two brothers and two sisters. Funeral held at grandmother’s home with interment in Greenwood cemetery.
