The open installation Monday evening drew old soldiers and patriotic women. Mrs G W Hood presided as installing officer. Charles Travis of Porter township near the Indiana county line in Jefferson county suffered a severe injury while working in McKean county last week. One leg was badly smashed and an above the knee amputation was performed. He is well known in the northwest part of the county and is an old soldier with a solid record.
Mr. George Kerr, of near Rochester Mills, had a serious woodlands accident last week when a falling tree trapped his foot. The tree crushed and fractured both bones of his ankle as he stepped back from the timber.
At Marchand, Dr. H. B. Baterbaugh leaves on Saturday to oversee the practice of Dr. J. W. Morrow for three months. Dr. Morrow is a candidate for the Legislature and will be canvassing from now until after the primary election.
Grace Moore, daughter of W. S. Moore of Homer City, nearly drowned Thursday after falling through ice while skating on the dam. A brave youth pulled her from the icy bath, saving her life.
Commissioners approve enhancements for the sheriff's office including brighter wall paper and a handsome new interior upgrade. The project aims to refresh the building and improve public accessibility and appearance for visitors and staff.

Mr. Samuel Bates of Armagh narrowly avoided serious injury Tuesday evening last week when his buggy was struck by an approaching train while crossing the railroad near Nineveh. He was thrown from the carriage but escaped with only slight head bruises.
Mr Walter Blose principal of Hillsdale schools and Miss Mollie Bennett of Gipsy were married at the bride’s mother's home on December 21. Rev J G Wise of Cherrytree officiated. Both are prominent young people with many friends.
Joseph M. Caldwell will deliver a lecture on Echoes of 61 in the Ambrose Baptist Church on Thursday January 9 and in the Chambersville Baptist Church on Friday January 10. Admission is 10 cents. The talk promises to be interesting and well worth hearing.

The annual Presbyterian church meeting reports a small treasury balance and no debt. Trustees re-elected, a plan to secure land and build a chapel is set for discussion, with a January report due. Union week of prayer services are planned across local churches amid frigid weather.

West Wheatfield Township residents appeal to the court to open an old road vacated years ago. After the West Penn Extension railroad and canal bed altered access to New Florence, roads along the tow path became impassable in wet weather. A petition seeks to reopen the route from Millican’s saw mill to Clay Pike through Mr. Ligget’s land, with Mr. Ligget asking 3000 dollars for the privilege. Citizens oppose the price and seek court protection.
The Union Veteran Legion hosts its annual banquet with open installation of officers followed by a Women’s Relief Corps reception at G A McLain residence East Philadelphia. The event promises reunions to Percc and guests with toasts and entertainment marking a decade of the organization.

Smith and Wilson, threshers in Armstrong County, report total grain for the year at 30 249 bushels. The season includes 20 675 bushels oats, 9 332 wheat, 125 clover seed, and 114 timothy. They threshed 700 bushels of oats in half a day. Last year topped 32 000.
Trustees elected H. D. Condron principal of Kellysburg summer school. Condron, a leading county teacher, currently teaches at Smicksburg. Opening date to be fixed at next trustees meeting. attendance expected strong. Juring Register and Recorder McGregor’s term they owed 2,000 licenses. by Saturday evening the total reached 1,999 until Coleman aided to reach the target.

Mr Henry Miller oldest Fairview resident died Sabbath afternoon about 2 o clock after long illness. He lived in Fairview over 40 years and previously in Shelecta where he built wagons. He leaves an aged wife and son Frank Miller. Funeral by Rev Dr Hall at Frederick church with interment in Oakland cemetery. Annie Hazlett youngest daughter of Elizabeth Hazlett died in Chicago at 31 after typhoid fever. She taught in Chicago high schools for six years. Prostrated last Wednesday and died five days later. Interment in Greenwood cemetery with service at 1 pm.
Mrs Elizabeth Seiler of Buffington township died Wednesday at her son John Young's home at age 96. She was believed to be the oldest resident of the area and a member of the local church. Interment was held Friday at Union cemetery in Buffington.
Mr J O McLaughlin of Rayne Township died Tuesday around 10 o clock from typhoid fever. He was aged about 54 years. The obituary notes the illness and passing in the local region.
Of Young township, died of paralysis, aged 73. funeral at Daina church in Jacksonville, where his will be interred today.
Mr Charles Sterner son of BR Sterner a Pine Flat merchant died on Sabbath evening after a brief illness. The obituary notes his father’s name and his residence, with scant details of his age or exact cause.
