Death of Evan Williams in the Philippines
Word arrived Thursday that Evan Williams, a former Martintown resident and county native, drowned accidentally in the Philippines on December 8. A former regular army member, he later taught school in the area before moving to Manila and marrying a Spanish wife. He was about 25, with many relatives in Martintown and Johnstown. funeral arrangements unknown.

Notorious horse thief breaks jail escapes recaptured
David Trainor, a known horse thief, escaped Clarion county jail on Sabbath evening but was recaptured within seven hours. Sheriff Thompson pursued him after the escape, and Trainor was overtaken the next morning and returned to jail. Trainor had recently been confined for horse stealing in Montgomery township and was previously convicted at the 1892 September term.

Tragic Death of Homer City Youth in New Florence Accident
MEY A TRAGICDEATH, St. Clair D. Smith of Homer City was run down and instantly killed by a passenger train at New Florence on Sabbath afternoon. He stepped from his train a few minutes before the crash. The deceased was about 17 years old, son of Homer City. his father is dead. The remans were taken to Homer City on Monday. Funeral services were held Monday and interment was in Greenwood cemetery.
