Germans Flag Colors Spark Shop Counter Debate
In a Sixth Avenue dry goods store two well dressed women sought ribbon colors for the German flag. Clerks and customers debated whether the colors were black red and white or red yellow and black. A floorwalker and an Indiana schoolteacher offered conflicting opinions before Schwartz the German floorwalker settled on black red and white. The women bought small amounts, paying seven cents for a yard of each color.
