Portland the Rose City and its Oregon heritage
In a survey of Oregon's early settlement and Portland’s rise, the piece traces discovery, exploration, and the 1811 Astoria arrival, noting Grant’s era, Donation Land Claims, and the region's vast rivers. It extols Willamette Valley fertility, Cascade west forests, and Hood River fruit, concluding with Portland’s rose culture, climate, and skyline views from Council Crest.
