The Indiana County Teachers Institute sessions drew 99 members from 82 districts as Supt. James F. Telfrick led opening exercises. Addresses by Dr. O L Warren and Dr. Frank B. Willis highlighted the program, with Gov. Hoch as a guest speaker and Miss Christine Mahaffey performing songs for the teachers.
The McGaughey home at Penn Run was totally destroyed by a second fire after a prior small blaze. The cause is unknown and the insured building had been under repair. Nearby, William Shaffer’s house near Creekside burned Friday evening with most contents lost. Insurance covered the loss. Rev TeasdaleTo Take Up New Ministerial Duties In Lovejoy Revival meetings drew a large crowd as Rev W Teasdale, formerly aiding Baptist churches in Indiana Association, prepares for a Lancaster county pastoral post. He leaves next week with family to occupy a furnished parsonage. He has a horse and carriage, plus a weekly gallery. His family stays with his father Joseph Hudson on Church Street. A man from Cambria Caldwell has bought 700 acres, plans for 1000 acres of surface, undisclosed purpose, coal historically mined there. Mother and six children in Dixonville were found destitute after two days without food. neighbors aided temporarily and relief orders were issued by county commissioners. The husband and father is alleged to have abandoned the family.
Transfers listed include John M. Noen 141 acres in Canoe to Wm. B. Bibel for 3000 dollars and Lawrence J. Reithmiller in Green to Wm. H. Meekina for 1700 dollars. Also M Hilla Cribbs 63 acres in Conemaugh to Clearfield Trust Co. trustee for 2878.65 dollars and Alexander Reed 140 acres in Fone to B. M. Clark trustee for 5 dollars.
Mrs Ralph arcemus visits Johnstown this week and many locals host or visit relatives in nearby towns. The community notes entertainments, church events, school programs, and social visits across Johnstown Homer City Ligonier Seward Armagh and Bolivar with several trips to Pitt sburg and Richmond. A Christmas Eve program at the M B church and a public reading room social are planned as winter activities.
G C Neal of Croekafde R D 1 and many locals are listed as callers, holiday visitors, and attendees at events. Students, teachers, and directors from State College, Yale, Philadelphia Medical College, and nearby townships return home for Christmas holidays. several moves, weddings, and travels are noted along with two milestone birthdays and a postcard surprise anniversary.
Professor Janlin E. Cogswell director of the Indiana Normal Conservatory of Music will leave the local institute at the end of the school year. He and his wife will join the University of Pittsburgh faculty next fall. He organized the Indiana Choral Society and leads the Indiana Military Band, and his departure comes with new salaries promised for both.
The New Century Club held its final meeting for 1910 on Monday afternoon. Miss Marinda Stewart led the French literature program, inviting Mr. Wm. J. Jack of the Normal school to discuss Victor Hugo, in a pleasing and instructive mode. Mrs. Helen Watson Fisher sang The Rosary with Mrs. W. S. Hamilton at the piano, and excerpts from Hugo's diary were read by Mrs. H. B. Cogswell. Tea and buttered toast followed, served by Stewart's class with Mrs. Wm. Wrigley pouring. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday January 9, 1911 at 3 o'clock.
Dr Harper, former rector of Christ Episcopal Church, resigned in Indiana and moved to Brooklyn last evening with his wife to serve All Saints Protestant Episcopal Church. He settled in Indiana about two years ago and is described as broad minded with strong social ties.
Obituaries and notices list Mrs. Abbie Garman and others from Uniontown area who died in December, with ages and survivors. Interments are noted in Uniontown cemetery and Blairsville cemetery. Also listed are deaths: Charles Stonmer, Edward Hoberte, Mrs. Phoebe Byler, Miss Lyda Beatty, Mrs. Victoria Adams, and Mrs. Peter Lear with brief survivor details and burial sites.
Civil court sessions opened with cases including Yellow Creek Coal Company versus Thomas Hogan over land title stuck for five years due to defense filing issues. Indiana County v Burrell Township upheld Burrell owed 8123.99 for macadam road costs. Orange Long v Olen awarded defendant after cow sale warranties dispute. Anthony Korpalsky v N C H R R Co seeks 1500 for team of mules killed by train. James Misner and Charles Hicke pleaded guilty to larceny and received fines and jail.
Plumville principal E. E. Elder elected director as Plumville Select School opens April 18 for ten weeks. Purchase Line Academy holds 86th session starting April 17 with Donald D. Patterson continued as principal. Greenville Summer Normal starts April 18 under Profs Weaver and Thompson for ten weeks. Juneau Summer Normal begins April 18 led by Emerick and McFarland with broad teaching experience. Birthdays celebrated for Agnes Caldwell and Mary Carson with community gatherings. A Cherryhill Brethren Church Christmas program is slated for Saturday evening with dialogue, music, and drills led by Margaret Cook.
