How It Was Thant the Letters and Papers Were Thrown Out

A rural tale from Chicago Record recounts farmer Bowen and family installing a postbox for mail. Letters vanish nightly, later revealed to be pulled out by wrens guarding their nest. Mrs Wren is spared, a stone fixes the issue, and peace returns to the Bowen household. Also brief note on Prince Edward of York portrayed as a future monarch.

His Streak of Humor and Holiday Teasers on Street Corners

A Cleveland Plain Dealer anecdote follows a portly paper boy known for humor on the Euclid and Wilson corner. A rival boy joins, a mispronounced date line sparks a playful quarrel, and onlookers enjoy the street banter about a shoe shop fire and “17 souls” misrendered as lives. Included are quotes from J. F. Anthony praising a cure and a note that Santa Claus has a candy and fruit HQ at J. B. Younkins for Christmas shopping.

Grave of David sparks religious dispute in press reports

The Cologne Gazette says the German emperor visited the grave of David in Jerusalem with sultan’s permission, a claim disputed by Rev. Johannes Winkler who says he was the first Christian to enter the site thirteen years earlier with Raphaila Lorenzo, noting a catafalque and rug. Winkler asserts his claim in Linz and contrasts experiences with the emperor’s. The report shifts to Scot dialect sermons, tariff manuals, and assorted ads, including Grain-O claims and various local notices and goods.
