Thanksgiving was celebrated with a bright May day in the county seat. Services at the M E church drew a large crowd with Rev J M Jones opening prayer Rev J Day Brownlee scripture reading Rev A J Furman delivering a patriotic sermon and Rev M M Sweeny closing prayer. A $32.50 collection aided the town's poor and a Children s Aid Society supper followed at Library Hall as many townsfolk skipped turkey leftovers.

Boy’s accidental gunshot injures sister near Grise More
On Wednesday evening Phoebe Late, a young girl near Grise more, was accidentally shot while her brother played with a revolver. The bullet struck near the heart. Dr Helfrick attended and dressed the wound and the girl is expected to recover.

Butler schools principal arrested for assault on pupil

Normal Football Loses Thanksgiving Clash at Johnstown
On Thanksgiving day Normal traveled to Johnstown for a return game. Johnstown won 10 to 0, after leading with a first half touchdown and goal, then adding another score in the second half. Players Pounds Earhart Lockard and Martz starred for Normal as the season ended. The Johnstown eleven defeated Normal, who had beaten them earlier, in a hard fought contest.

Woman Dies Suddenly at Supper in Arta Strong Township
A 34 year old Mrs. Jacob Boyer died abruptly while seated at the supper table Saturday evening at the Miller farm four miles west of town. Doctors said apoplexy caused a painless death. She belonged to Run Presbyterian Church and funeral services were held Monday at home, with interment in Greenwood cemetery.

Mrs Rosana Moorhead died at her home in Mechanicsburg on Tuesday December 1 1896 aged about 70 years and 1 month. widow of Hon Robert B Meashead who died 1868, sister of the late nn Lichteberger. Mother of six, she had been confined by a leg fracture for years and death attributed to old age. She belonged to the United Presbyterian church.
