State's Best Fair Opens With Busy Grounds and Events
The county fair started yesterday with the Round House crowded by cattle sheep and swine and 150 driving horses. Exhibits fill Hall and grounds with side shows a Ferris wheel and a roast ox on Soldiers Day. Officials, bands, and rest tents for mothers mark a lively opening amid plans for a record showing and judging on racing and livestock.

Indiana County W C T U to hold its twenty seventh annual convention in the Presbyterian church at Saltsburg on Thursday and Friday September 8 and 9. Delegates from northern county areas may ride the Buffalo Rochester Pittaburgh railroad to the 9 16 a m trolley to Biskeville for access. Thursday night features a praise service led by Mrs A W Wilson and welcomes by Rev G W Ryall with children’s exercises directed by Mrs R H Wilson and a talk by Attorney Homer Castle of Pittsburg.

The Pittsburg Conference of the Evangelical Association will meet at the local Evangelical church starting Tuesday with the Conference Missionary Society gathering Wednesday. No Place Live Home for Cherry Tree youths
Wade Brothers and Ivan Bates of Cherry Tree believe story books and reality differ. The youths left their town on Friday, reached Johnstown that evening penniless, stayed two nights at the police station, where Bates admitted carrying an old revolver to deter Indians. Mayor Wilson ordered Bates to stay 80 days in Johnstown for carrying a concealed weapon. He sent the boys home with advice.

Heavy Loss by Fire in Canter Township Farm
A barn and contents on the Robert Craven farm in Canter Township were destroyed by a midnight Friday fire with no insurance. Loss falls heavily on occupant O. H. Lance. crops, two horses, 40 turkeys, and 25 chickens erased. No insurance coverage noted.

McCoy Dies After Freight Train Collision at Gatmans Mills
Samuel W. McCoy, a Cockport merchant and postmaster, was killed crossing railroad tracks at Gatmans Mills when a freight train struck the rear of his buggy. He died of skull fracture and internal injuries after being taken to Spangler hospital. McCoy, 66, was active in local affairs and Civil War veteran. Also noted are obituaries for Mrs. James L. Allison and others, with standard notices of death and burial in local churches and cemeteries.

Long-lived county resident James Black dies at 96 in Chambersville
James Black, among the county's oldest residents, died at his Chambersville home on Sunday night at age 96. Born near Clarksville, he moved to Chambersville at 26. His mother, Miller, was part of a large longevity line, with siblings and relatives living into their 90s and beyond. He leaves one sister aged 82. Funeral services were held yesterday and he was interred at Washington church cemetery.

Big Auto Burned In Hill Crash Near Garfield
A large Oldsmobile overturned on Lichtenfels Hill between Garfield and Lockport Thursday evening, then burned. The occupants escaped unharmed. More than 800 attended gatherings of Learn Bush and Uncapher families and a joint reunion near Green township. Frat alumni from No. 10 school in Center township hosted 400 plus, with basket dinner, readings, songs, and speeches by Rev. Meaner and others. Civil War veterans from Companies B and F, 74th PA, held a separate reunion at Wood End Hotel with officers elected for next year and a plan to meet in Punxsutawney.
