Grid leak resistance in a three electrode vacuum tube circuit

The article explains how grid leak resistance in a three electrode vacuum tube, using a grid leak instead of a C battery, affects grid potential and plate current. It discusses how too low resistance prevents sufficient negative grid charge and causes weak output, while too high resistance allows excessive negative charging, approaching no grid leak, with impedance governing current.

Positive Grid Effects On Vacuum Tube Plate Current

A detailed description explains how positive grid potential attracts electrons from the filament, depositing negative charge on the grid. During the negative half cycle the grid becomes negative but does not shed electrons, gradually reducing plate current as an AC grid potential is applied. After the cycle ends the grid leaks charge slowly through a grid leak resistor, while internal plate impedance remains a tube intrinsic characteristic affecting telephone load impedance and current flow.
