Samuel Powley aged 48 a farmer near Rochester Mills hanged himself in a woods on his farm early Friday after leaving home to seek medical advice. Found by his brother after an all night search the self-inflicted death was taken to Ross funeral rooms and burial followed at Rochester Mills.
Real estate transfers recorded in Indiana County show multiple parcels shifting hands. Harry Flickinger sells a Homer City lot to J C Buchanan for 225 dollars. Samuel G Wilson’s seven Indiana lots to John Rezzola for 3000. Adam M Adams buys 4 Homer City lots for 2000. and many other transfers involving acres and lots across Homer City, Can Orte, West Lebanon and surrounding townships with prices ranging from 75 to 4500 dollars.
A young woman, Miss Alice Shank, 19, is seriously burned from the waist down and the burns to her legs after a gas leak ignited in a living room at Ernest Forsha’s North Fifth street home in Indiana. An explosion enveloped her in flames. Mrs Forsha smothered the fire and the girl was taken to Indiana hospital. Doctors initially feared for her life but now hold hope for recovery. In a separate item, Margaret Evans, a young mother from Heilwood, disappeared from Memorial Hospital Johnstown with a newborn baby boy left in care of the hospital matron, who offered Evans a job there after the discharge was delayed.
A dynamite blast wrecked part of the United Mine Workers Union hall at Iselin on Monday evening causing about 500 dollars in damage. The act is attributed to opponents of the union. A Work reunion is planned for August 12 at Rochester Mills with officers listed as President Moses T. Steel and Secretary Miss Alberta Work.
