Egg of Phoenix Found by Field Naturalists in China
Naturalists in China for American museums found a gigantic fossil ostrich egg, described locally as the Phoenix egg. Mounted in the American Museum of Natural History, the egg is about the size of a hen’s egg, with two quarts of liquid inside, and is the only perfect specimen known aside from a hole where contents may have escaped.

An Operation by Telegraph in Australia
An operation carried out under directions from a distant surgeon 1800 miles away and sent by telegraph saved a life in Avetricin. The patient fell from a horse at Falls Creek, Northern Australia, suffering a urethral rupture and other injuries. With no local doctor within 1000 miles, telegen telegraph details from Perth and mail back from Ani's Creek, using a ciner instrument, enabled the operation and successful restoration.

Turkish Sultans and Succession in the Ottoman Line
The Turkish government is a hereditary monarchy with the sultan as temporal and spiritual head. Succession follows the senior male line of the House of Osman, Mohammed I the thirty-sixed sovereign. The sultan does not marry, but children born in the harem are counted legitimate and succession favors the oldest male child regardless of the mother's status.
