Wounds in Trench Warfare From 1916 Data

Statistics cover January 1916 to June 1916 showing wounded proportions by weapon type. Artillery and bombs account for major injuries. head and neck wounds are 21.92 percent, trunk 21.63 percent, extremities 56.4 percent. Severity: 23.62 percent serious, 6.45 percent medium, 0.13 percent so slight that victims can return immediately.

Water outage at Glenville after snake blocks pipe

Glenville, three miles from Tarrytown, lacked water Tuesday as the Gypsy spring on Gen Howard Caroll’s estate supplied the town. William Van Winkle thawed a frozen pipe that fed the spring and found a garter snake inside. The snake, frozen from Monday night’s cold, blocked the supply and was released when thawed. Van Winkle displayed it proudly, with neighbor corroboration.

Leper Colony at Palo Seco Near Panama Canal

In 1905 the U S funded a $25 000 building for seven lepers in Panama. By April 1907 a hospital opened at Palo Seco with land plots for self support. The Mission of the Holy Comforter supported by the Episcopal Church provides chapel school infirmary laundry and gardens, giving the lepers a rare social and practical lifeline.
