Ten Years of Service For St Bernard Parish Pastor McNelis
Rev. Father N. P. McNelis of St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church marked ten years of ministry in Indiana. A biography and church history note his Irish birth in 1858, arrival in the U.S. in 1870, work in iron and coal, studies at St Francis College and St. Vincent College, and ordination in Pittsburgh in 1890. He arrived in Indiana in 1898 and is well regarded by many denominations. The church's early history recalls a 1845 frame church, a pew model, a twelve-voice choir, and a debt-bound parsonage with a parochial school once run by Henry Schnittberger.
