Water culture corn reveals fertilizer needs in roots alone

Scientists from the bureau of plant industry grew mature corn in water tanks to study nutrient effects separate from soil. The test showed variable fertilizer salt tolerance, with iron, manganese and boron as key trace elements. Water culture allowed precise solution changes, though yields were lower than field crops. Also noted are patents for fruits and flowers, including a new mango resistant to decay and an improved York apple maturing earlier.
