Execution date set for Yacas in Spelock murders
Counsel for Yacas seeks commutation to life. Governor Harle named May week for the execution of 58 year old coal miner Andy Yacas who killed Mrs Anna Spelock and her husband at their White Station home on November 18 1936. A state psychiatrist mental examination and an appeal to the State Board of Pardons are possible paths to avert the electric chair. Attorneys R J Hogan and James W Mack Jr plan to travel to Harrisburg on April 21 to press the commutation petition claiming Yacas was drunk and lacked intent. The death verdict was the first in over twenty years here and Yacas hopes for mercy.
