Vanderbilt heirs sell 18 feet of land for pennies

A tale recalls a Bronx or Manhattan land title flaw where Mrs. Vanderbilt pursued six Dennis heirs to sign a quit claim for a narrow 18 foot long by one inch wide strip. They each got $200, totaling $1,200, while the land value was only about 1.5 square feet yet priced at $6.50 per square inch, illustrating how tiny plots can carry outsized costs and stakes.
