The county mourns Dr William Anderson of Philadelphia Street who died March 2x, 199¢, after a lifetime of medical service. A Scottish Irish lineage, long career in Indiana County Medical Society, and steadfast public service mark his legacy. funeral held at his residence with interment at Oakland Cemetery.
Michael Lowman oldest resident of Armstrong township died Thursday morning after weeks of illness. Born June 12, 1807 his parents Abraham and unknown mother emigrated from Franklin county to Young township. He married Nancy Walker in 1834 and had nine children, eight living. He farmed near Shelocta most of life, widow since 1886, active until recently. He was a lifelong member of the United Presbyterian church and last survivor of the Associated Presbyterian church of Jacksonville. Funeral held Saturday at 9:00 a.m. with Rev. G. W. Robinson and Rev. W. J. Wilson. interment in Jacksonville United Presbyterian graveyard.
Robert Mack of Londonderry Ohio died March 12 at his daughter Mrs J K McCartney residence aged 73 years and 2 months. He leaves two daughters Mrs McCartney and Mrs J A Duncan both of Londonderry and was brother to Joseph Mack and uncle to Sheriff D C Mack. He was a prominent neighbor with many friends and was interred at Auszim U P church graveyard.
Christopher Long aged 79 years and 2 months of Cherryhill township dies Thursday. He leaves a wife and children Dr H H of Orion IL Dr L L of Toulon IL W F of Mitch ell’s Mills and Mrs Ellis Buterbaugh of Green township. church mender funeral held near Mitchells Mills. John Gilmore of West Lebanon dies Thursday aged 70 after months of ill health. lifelong Young township farmer and West Union United Presbyterian member. funeral by Rev Little with graveyard interment in church yard.
Mrs John Warnick daughter of Mrs M J Dally of Church Street Third Ward died at noon Thursday after long illness, aged about 25. Interment was held Saturday in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Harry Lucas of Bennett Station near Pittsburg dies at about 30 from an inflammation of the bowels. Her husband is a son of John Lucas of Center township. Interment was held on Sabbath. An infant child of James Carney of Cherryhill township dies at 1 year 8 months. Interment takes place today.
The Home Talent Opera Fra Diavolo is moved to April 16 and 17, a week later than planned, due to new drills and marches adding prep time. Rehearsals are frequent and organizers aim to maximize proceeds for the worthy poor and YMCA. souvenir programs are being prepared under Ross M. Sutton for space notices.
Major Penny of the second brigade N G P inspected Company F. Government property was examined and praised as the best display of state property. The drill covered platoon formations extended order guard duty and company movements. Major Kennedy called it the best inspection so far this spring in the 5th regiment. Col John McGaughey’s stirring recitation drew cheers from the blue boys and friends. Co F led the 5th Regiment at the last inspection and is favored to hold that position.
The 20th annual meeting of the Ladies' Missionary Society of the Conemaugh presbytery will meet at the First United Presbyterian church in this place starting tomorrow and run until Friday noon. Delegates from all churches in the presbytery are expected. The first session is scheduled for 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon.
A new warrant is issued for Leslie Cochran the noted local thief now jailed on multiple offenses. The latest charge comes from west Philadelphia merchant R F Walker robbed the night before Cochran’s capture. Constable Wettling served the warrant in Cochran’s cell Monday.
Steele Bryan of the Second ward suffered a severe shock while testing X rays at the electric light plant on Wednesday night. He grabbed two live wires charged with 1,100 volts which lacerated his hands, but a companion pulled him free before serious burns occurred.
Paul Gessler son of C A Gessler fell from a door in the glass house on Thursday and suffered a severe wrist injury. One tendon was severed and a deep gash opened the arm. Dr Knowlton treated the wound with several stitches.
A ring was recovered by Constable Wettling last week in the stables at the fairground. Leslie Cochran, now in jail, faces multiple robbery charges. The report mentions Cochran’s associate Teenie Reetthe palentiaeh.
Squire William Burns of Center Township recounts a midnight burglary on March 21 as two masked men bound gagged and robbed him of 430 in cash 170 in gold and 18 silver dollars along with clothing items. Joseph Smith of Kinter House suffered a mental breakdown this week and wandered the streets last night with a broom and gun. Constable Wi arrested him at 5 this morning and jailed him until recovery.
