William Boyce Thompson Dies in Yonkers Home
William Boyce Thompson copper operator and philanthropist died after a week long illness at his Yonkers home. His fortune, estimated at 160 million, funded copper mines in Montana and elsewhere, diamonds in South Africa, and gifts to Philips Exeter Academy and the Republican party. Survived by wife Gertrude Hickman Thompson and daughter Margaret Schully, with a brother J Jarward Thompson and sister Mrs Walter Filor among others. He held LL D degrees from Pittsburgh and Kentucky, a Doctor of Science from Arizona, and served as lieutenant colonel guiding the Red Cross mission to Russia.
