Census Recount Sought for Indiana Borough Overcount Affects 1960 Census

A local bid seeks a census recount for Indiana Borough at no cost, arguing 1960 figures overcount by including Z out of town students from Indiana State Teachers College. With about 1,386 out-of-county students counted, the borough’s population rose 16 percent, though excluding students would show a much smaller increase. Dwelling units rose by about 600 in the decade, suggesting a larger population not accounted for by student inclusion. Neighbors claim the town grew independently of the college, and a recount could adjust the census figures accordingly.
