Gunmen in bloody attempt to save pal ends in fire fight
Across Union Station in Kansas City five gunmen tried to seize Frank Nash outside the main entrance. Nash and four officers were killed, two DOJ men wounded, and the attackers fled amid a hail of gunfire as witnesses watched. Raymond J. Caffrey died later. chief Ott Reed and detectives Hermanson and Groans were killed.

Blairsville Man Dies in Indiana Hospital
William A Geary a Blairsville merchant and long time resident died at the Indiana Hospital after being brought in Thursday. Funeral plans not yet set. Mrs Mary Hagerman Ward wife of Walter Ward died suddenly at her Black Lick home from a heart attack while playing piano. Funeral set for Sunday with Rev F W McConnell presiding. Interment in Blairsville Cemetery. She was 41 born November 24 1801 in Philadelphia. Survived by husband two sons John Robert and William Ward and sister Mrs Dora Linton of Philadelphia. She was active in Methodist Episcopal church and Blairsville Order of the Eastern Star.

In Ohio City Lakewood Ohio June 17 Ins broke financially and morale. Killer John Maug leader of the Maug mob in Pittsburgh and chief aide Kiddie Turpae were to be returned to Western Penitentiary Pittsburgh from where they escaped April 27. They decided not to fight extradition and preparations to return them started. Detectors armed with rifles pistols machine guns and tear gas accompanied the convoy. Maug and Turpac were serving life terms for murdering Constable Moses and 60 to 120 more years for robbery. They were recaptured yesterday in Cleveland suburb while plotting minor holdups. Bertillon records identified them.

Eicher granted bail in fatal Penn View crash case
Donald Eicher, 24, of Oliver Payette county was charged with involuntary manslaughter and driving while intoxicated in the death of Arthur Marsh, 20, near Blairsville. The July crash on the William Penn Highway at Penn View Summit occurred Thursday. Eicher waived a preliminary hearing and was released on $1,000 bail.
