Survey on Ex-PWs reveals Korea War repatriation trends
An Army study of 3,323 former prisoners shows eighty percent of American war prisoners repatriated after the Korean War did not resist nor cooperate with captors. Fifteen percent were collaborators and five percent resisters. Those who cooperated did so to avoid mistreatment and gain better treatment, with little background difference between resisters and participators. The study notes those who cooperated returned in better physical condition, while resisters had fewer neurotic symptoms.
