Summer retreat at Swampscott for President Coolidge
Planning notes describe President Coolidge and staff spending sixty days at a secluded Swampscott summer estate later known as the Summer White House. Secret service guards, Marines, and a private access road ensure seclusion while the Mayflower remains anchored offshore. Heating up leisure plans include yachting, riding, motoring, and reading with minimal formal entertaining in a tranquil coastal setting.
