State College, June 10. Completing 2 year courses in agriculture and forestry, 23 students have been awarded certificates by Pennsylvania State College. Dean R. L. Watts announced the recipients in the ranger course. Carl A. Babiuk of Neilwood is among those named.
The industrial public works bill passed to conference carrying a new provision for full publicity of all federal income tax returns and a change removing tax exemptions on bonds. The Senate approved the bill 84 to 57 after a 13 hour session, rejecting a 1.75 percent general sales tax and supporting higher corporate and gasoline levies. Senator La Follette praised the income tax publicity measure, while opposition on bond taxation and treasury notes proposals persisted.
President James Mark and District No 2 United Mine Workers executives issued a circular letter to mine operators inviting a meeting between operators and district representatives. John Thomas Jennings, 63, shot himself at his Black Lick Marshall Heights home shortly after threatening his 19-year-old son who had just returned from a Cambria county reforestation camp. He died in his bedroom about 8:40 p.m. local time, found by family and neighbors after the gunshot.
