Harrisburg reports indicate Senate committees will favor amendments to broaden hospital and medical care for injured workers and extend compensation periods. A Rodgers bill would replace the Romig 5 1 2 day minimum with a 1 2 6 of six months wages base, aiming to curb the long standing weekly minimum. Mrs Mary Mae Evans longtime Indiana resident and former member of First Presbyterian Church dies at her Washington DC home. She was the last survivor of her family, with services at Robinson Funeral Home conducted by Rev Robert L Clark at 3 PM. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Harrisburg reports that dismissed Capitol Hill employees cannot hold SERB administrative posts without department head approval. State Relief Director Robert L. Johnson said a check found 19 former highway laborers on work relief payrolls but no HI workers in SERB administrative positions.

Harrisburg reports end May highway construction surged to over 10 miles weekly in the state system. Berlin dispatch says a Soviet firing squad executed a peasant of German descent charged as a Hitler agent. The report places the event in Strassburg village, Odessa district, USSR, naming Michael Roehmen as the alleged spy. The case risks serious international consequences.

Judge Langham ordered prosecutor John Eliafsky released from county jail after ruling Justice of the Peace Ralph C. Brown of Blairsville had no authority to substitute the prosecutor for the defendant in an aggravated assault and battery hearing. Brown had fined the father $25 and costs, and he was jailed 30 days in default of payment. The June 3 transcript states the JP found the father responsible for the disturbance instead of the defendant son.
Clair A. Lydie with 12 years of car sales experience to manage a new Pontiac agency at 134 North Fifth street. The showroom displays 10 Pontiacs in six and eight cylinder models. Lydie formerly worked with Pontiac agencies in Pittsburgh and West Virginia and with the Indiana Oakland Company.
Western Pennsylvania coal miners plan a probable strike starting June 16 as bituminous mines rush to ramp up production. About 54,000 miners in the region are eyed to earn 2,235,000 for the first half of June, with coal output projected at 10 million tons per month. United Anthracite Miners of Pennsylvania members near Glen Alden Colliery were expected to be at work within a week under a settlement, while the broader union faces ongoing tensions and talks on the Guffey Snyder bill aiming to avert the walkout.
