Thousands of small hearts are urged to distribute hospital appeal materials and volunteer for tasks during a ten day drive from June 20th to July 1st. Henry Hall, hospital president, likens the effort to early community projects and calls on citizens to contribute time to support a pivotal local institution.
Colonel Lindbergh and his bride anchored at the harbor last night aiding fuel transfer. A local girl recognized Lindbergh and news spread rapidly. Students gathered amid graduation festivities as crowds surged to see the famed aviator and his party aboard the Mouette. Anne remained aboard the cabin during the stop. Indemnity totaling 1.72 billion lire, about 90.5 million dollars, is paid by Italy to the Vatican as part of the Lateran treaties. Cardinal Gasparri signs the indemnity check. Pope Pius XI blesses the world and sends a telegram to King Victor Emmanuel.
Pittsburgh June 7 In a sealed decision Judge Ambrose B. Reid found four local men guilty of conspiracy in defacing ballots during the September 1927 primaries in the Twenty first ward. Pattison, Alston, Shindel and Dean face sentencing. Pattison a Republican ward chairman, Alston a city employee, Shindel a city detective, and Dean a watcher at the election.
In Abingdon Cumberland County a mistrial was declared in Deputy Sheriff Kim Crowe’s murder case charging him with killing college freshman J M Kendrick after a car stop for liquor. Jury disagreement halted trials for Crowe and two fellow officers James McReynolds and W D Worley, with reports indicating a 10 to 2 tilt toward conviction on a manslaughter count before discharge. Prosecution argued no liquor and no crime. defense said officers could shoot if liquor was suspected and a felony ongoing.
New York June 7. Pierpont Morgan broke a long standing rule by posing for a photograph aboard the Mauritania as he returned from the reparations conference. He reluctantly complied after a photographer pressed him, then warned to stop further requests. Morgan, his son H. Morgan, his wife, and three children accompanied him.
Major C M Wilhelm deputy superintendent announced that the printer network will connect 105 cities and boroughs in Pennsylvania. Several others consider joining. The system will relay crime messages statewide with Pittsburgh Philadelphia Scranton and Harrisburg as central receiving stations.
Beaver Falls Pa June 7 local police refuse to take a 3000 reward offered for the capture of the persons responsible for bombing the home of Police Chief William J Davidson. Joseph and Louis Phillips are indicted on bombing charges. County commissioners offered 2000 and the police officers protective association added 1000 for the arrest.
Patricia Fo Klair, 22, a cigar counter clerk at a Detroit hotel, was found gagged and bound with her head wrapped in a towel on an iron grate beside the hotel. Police say she was killed as she left the hotel, with blood stains suggesting she was dragged. Two men were seen leaving the scene by witness Arthur Rowland. Investigators note she had recently been annoyed by several hotel guests.
In Annapolis on June 7, naval academy graduations led to eight couples marrying within six hours, as midshipmen and teachers sought chapel ceremonies. Notables included Ensign Charles A. Meeker and Marguerite Fox of Lakeland Florida, a teacher at Annapolis High School, followed by Ensign Charles K. Hutchinson and Mildred Beckles of Pittsburgh and Ensign Gustave Jansen and Anna MargareggR Torch of New York City.
Paris June 7 The reparation accord embracing the Young plan, governing Germanys war debt liquidation over five years, was signed at the Hotel George this afternoon after Allied and German ratification. Belgium signed the English text, Germany signed the French text, marking a historic step to replace the Dawes plan on September 17.
Washington June 7 The rural population would surrender House control under the Fenn reapportionment bill after nine years of debate. Based on 1930 census estimates the measure would shift representation toward cities and industrial centers, increasing urban voting power and likely swelling the wet bloc in Congress.
A seven year old girl, Josephine Koval, daughter of John Koval, died when a three story double frame house burned in Mahoney City. Fire started in the kitchen area and trapped occupants on the upper floors. one firefighter injured and eight family members burned. Loss estimated at 25000 dollars.
Wally Schang veteran catcher for the St. Louis Browns was ordered to pay 24 a week or 100 a month for child support of daughter Jean Marie. Judge George Co Carson heard the case as Mrs Aubrey Schang sought 2000 annually but the court reduced it to 1200. Mrs Schang had filed for divorce alleging cruelty and a decree was granted four months ago.
Mr and Mrs Robert Nimmo of Nant y Glo announce the birth of a daughter born May 30 at Mendenhall Maternity Home in Johnstown Pennsylvania. The mother is former Miss Zula Wagner. Both mother and child, Shirley Anne, are reported to be doing well. Dr William Campbell of Punxsutawney and Ernest Barr of Sheloda were observed in Indiana for business yesterday. Mr and Mrs Bert Pennington and Lucerne Mines were visitors in Indiana yesterday evening.
