Marrisburg Pennsylvania reports the $50,000,000 bond enabling act was passed finally by the Senate and sent to the House for a final vote next week. The measure replaces the 1923 act struck down by the Supreme Court for lacking a specified revenue purpose.
In Chicago on February 5, W. B. H. D. Stokes, New York millionaire, faced defamation charges from his wife Helen Elwood Stokes as the long awaited trial began before Judge William F. Gemmill. The case stems from divorce proceedings and alleged connection to a notorious Chicago club. The defense plans to argue good faith beliefs and misled information rather than disproving the allegations.
