Washington youth fatally shot at Bellevue grounds

William Workman son of Dr Samuel Workman was shot on the Bellevue camp grounds near Independence in Washington County near the West Virginia line. Police said the revolver fired into his stomach during a scuffle with rowdies after crowds were ordered off the grounds. He was taken to his home after an ambulance was summoned from Wellsburg. Workman, a grandson of a Methodist preacher, had completed academy work and was to enter Washington and Jefferson College as a freshman this fall.

Corry police report Retta Aldine Son, 19, of Jamestown, ingested tar or poison in a room and died within minutes.
